On Wednesday June 19, Foreign Policy for America hosted Congressman Andy Kim and Heather Hurlburt for an event on how Congress can constrain the Trump Administration’s actions in Iran. In a time of increasing escalation between the United States and Iran, how can Congress hold President Trump accountable and keep the U.S. out of war?
- Congressman Andy Kim represents New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District. He serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Small Business Committee and is the Chairman of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access. Prior to running for office, Kim served at the White House as the Director of Iraq in the National Security Council where he coordinated the crisis response to counter the rise of ISIS. He also served in Afghanistan as a Strategic Advisor to Generals David Petraeus and John Allen.
- Heather Hurlburt is the director of the New Models of Policy Change project at New America’s Political Reform program. Hurlburt leads research into how policy advocacy can adapt to be effective in our current environment of intense political polarization and guides advocates and funders seeking to navigate politics effectively on behalf of policy solutions on issues such as national security and climate change. Previously, she ran the National Security Network, a premier source for internationalist foreign policy messaging and advocacy, held senior positions in the White House and State Department under President Bill Clinton, and worked on Capitol Hill and for the International Crisis Group.
