On March 27th, 2019, Foreign Policy for America hosted a discussion with Congressman David Cicilline and Juan Gonzalez on the recent events in Venezuela. As the Maduro regime continues to lose legitimacy in the eyes of Venezuelans, the crisis in the country continues to deepen.
Congressman Cicilline is the Chairman of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee and serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He recently introduced legislation to prohibit the Trump administration from using military force in Venezuela without authorization from Congress.
Juan Gonzalez is an associate vice president with the Cohen Group, where he leads the firm’s practice in Latin America. He previously served as deputy assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere Affairs. Before that, he worked at the White House for four years, as Western Hemisphere advisor to Vice President Joe Biden from 2013 to 2015 and as National Security Council director for Western Hemisphere Affairs from 2011 to 2013.
